Digipak Evaluation

Hello!

To create our digipak the first thing we did was take various screen shots from our music video of shots that we liked, these were both setting shots and shots of the actor. We did this as we felt like this is a main way of linking and keeping themes running between our digipak and music video.
We chose the back cover to be that picture as we believe it looks as if we are looking through the arch in to a free world. All we can see is space and nature through that arch which is where our actor is aiming to be in the narrative.
We chose the front cover because it is the actor central and looking straight down the camera. This suggests that she is together and confident which is the message that our video conveys.
We chose the shot of the actor laughing because this shows that she is happy in this new world where she can be free and act how she wants.
We chose the two shots of the actor looking out over the lake because of how much freedom it involves. There is nothing but space infant of her and she is free to do anything here.
Finally we chose the shot of the sun coming through the trees for the disc tray as it represents freedom and life coming through the cracks of reality. 
We edited all of these 6 shots with a purple and blue tint as this is what the audience chose as our colour scheme. Purple represents 'creative, imaginative, wise'. Our concept is very creative and imaginative and therefore the colour fits. Blue represents 'trust, strength' which is what we want our target audience to become. 


We interviewed our target audience to find out what features they wanted to see. As a result of this we included:

• Pictures
• Ratings/Reviews
• Lyrics
• Album Name
• Artist Name
• Websites/Social Media

We used purple writing for the lyrics and pink sparkly writing for the album title and name. This is because it was one of two colours that our audience wanted in our colour scheme. We chose purple because one of our main focuses for our video was femininity because this is one of the codes of pop music. Purple is a staple female colour and therefore enforces further the artist's femininity. Purple is also a connotation for "wise and imaginative". The concept of our video is very imaginative and therefore this colour connotation fits perfectly.

Draft One Improvements

We have been working on the second draft of our video. For this we have been making clips a lot shorter as the audience feedback we got for our first draft was that the long clips can sometimes be quite dull.

Fist Video Draft Feedback

Hello!

We have recently finished editing our first music video draft and wanted to get some audience feedback to see what they thought.

We asked 3 people from our target audience to simply watch and discuss our video. We filmed them so that we could go back and look at what they said in order to effectively improve. You can watch that video here:






These are the comments that we pulled out:



Positives:

• They loved the colours throughout the video. Particularly commenting on the bright colours of our nature setting with the greens, yellows and blues. They also commented on the paint aspect with the artificial colour creating a 'fun' feel.
• It was clear that they understood what was going on from the transition from the night time to the dream, which is a real positive as this was a real worry for us.
• They commented on the lights aspect saying it was "really clever".
• They commented on all of the establishing shots and different setting shots saying that they were "eye-catching" and made them want to watch on as it gave a feel-good, natural tone.

Negatives:

• One criticism that we heard was that some of the shots were too long and it made the feel of it slow down and become a bit dull at time.
• Another criticism we got was that the very end section where the actor wakes up is too fast and it is hard to understand what has really happened. This was backed up when they had to replay it to understand properly.

Actions to take:

• The first thing we are going to do is shorten the shots by adding more in. On our third day of filming we took more setting shots for extra material just encase the editor needed it. Therefore we have plenty more shots that can be added in and therefore it will be easy to shorten shots and replace the lost time with more quick shots.
• The second thing we are going to do is slow down the ending. To do this we will need to take some shots out of the final fast pace chorus in order to have more time for the ending. We will therefore be able to make the shots longer and add another shot in to make it clearer.

Editing Log

Hello,

As the editor I made an editing log. This includes all clips that were filmed and the duration. I then made notes on what I had and hadn't used so that I had a log of everything that was happening as I was editing.
